Chungunga Surf

When Babadú -a Chilean band aimed for kids- asked me for a Music Video, my answer was: "Let me sit and draw something. If it flows, we do it." - and it totally did!

I finished the 1st raw animatic in about 4 hours of non-stop drawing. Everything in this video has a connection to something i've done, something I saw, something that made me laugh -like my wife's daily dance moves or my dad's dog- or something that got stuck in my head.

This process reminds me of keeping things simple, to drop expectations and the meaning of "writing about what you know" from screenwriting textbooks.

With Ignacio Cavieres -from MaquiFilms- on Production, Luna Vargas on Color Script and some of my own Character Designs we gave shape to the overall look. With Kat Villafaena on Art Direction and Pato Molina, Marcelo Medel and Jorge Alveal on Animation, we brought the characters to life, making it through the finish line on time and in budget.

This project was awarded with "Fondo de la Musica - Categoría Videoclip", a Chilean state cultural fund for the arts. It was also screened at Festival de Cine de Lebu (Chile) and Festival de Animación El Ojo Iluso, (Venezuela).
